When working on a new project, I always find myself looking for a social media icon pack. Finding one that matches my design is never an easy job but I almost always just want the most simple icons, no sketchy nonsense, no mad gradients or reflections just the official logo’s. So I took it upon myself to have a go at creating some and now I have a little resource for myself to use over and over and for anyone else you might make use of them.
Using Sketch App
I recently (through a recommendation from Laura Kalbag) downloaded Sketch App, a design software that has a strong focus on web and UI designers. I have forever used Photoshop but renewing every year is super expensive and it has a lot of features that I just don’t need. Sketch App had a really simple UI, which is rather refreshing to be honest and it’s all vector based so your designs are 100% scaleable and not to mention that it’s dirt cheap at £34.99. Since getting a Retina Macbook Pro I have found myself using .png much less and turning to .svg in my designs. Here is a great article by Chris Coyier on using .svg in your designs today.
What you get
So here are a bunch of Social Icons that I find myself needing all the time. I’ve included the following formats:
- .esp
- .png
- .svg
I have created black, gray and colour versions of the icons, but you can easily change the colours to match your own designs. I have also included the original .sketch file incase you feel like trying it out for yourself (there is a free trial available, but I’m pretty sure it’s a Mac exclusive tho, sorry PC users). - Update 0.2: Added two new icons Instagram and Tumblr. Also added a new hexagon shape set.
- Update 0.3: I have added the project to Github so you can folk the icons and send a pull request if you add to the project.
- Update 0.4: The set has been added to a .sketch project repository on github. Look under icons. My first pull request has been made 🙂
- Update 0.5: I have added a new set of shapes. ‘Rounded Hexagons’ Super nice.
- Update 0.6: New icons added Forrst and Pinterest. Thanks to Carlos Moreira for the resquest.
- Update 0.7: Now contains three different versions of icons.
